This was part of a plein air session.  I had a hard time with the colors, since the sky was very cloudy that day.  I have since cleaned up some of the house lines and dock.

Comments please.

very nice job. On the top left is a tree with red, but there is no reflection of red in the water. The house looks like it was drawn with a ruler. When the rest of the work is nice and soft, very natural looking. The boat at the dock, is my favorite part.

Thanks for your comments Snowartist.  I have toned down the red a bit, but I didn't see any reflection in the photo, so I didn't put any in the painting (the clouds may have something to do with that).  I did use a ruler for the lines.   I was told by one of my teachers that using a ruler would be the best way to get all the lines correct.  I was having a heck of a time doing it without the ruler.  But, I do appreciate your comments.  I too was attracted to the boat and the dock and had considered taking the house out of the picture completely.

Deb, the dock had a nice effect on me, as well. I understand why you used the ruler, but now that it is after the fact, can you "smudge" the lines to soften them a bit? I really like this painting. Very attractive (excluding the lines).

Kim,

Glad you like the painting.  I am posting another one after I did some touchup and got rid of some of the hard lines.  Still working on it a bit.  Softened the red trees after I saw this picture.  That's the beauty of photographing ones work, you can see the flaws!
