This was the first portrait in pastel I ever did. It is of my nephew's son Conner. I wasn't sure I had caught his likeness right but he was over last month and when he saw the painting he said, "Conner!" so I gotta figure I got the likeness down pretty well. It looks a little different than this now, some more work done on the clothes, but not much. NuPastels and a few Unisons on Canson, the rough side. C&Cs welcome as always.

Very nice, Barry!
I can see why you love pastels so much, obviously the medium was meant for you...Your work is always great to view!

Beautiful eyes and expression. He looks like a very happy boy. I like the way the bottom is unfinished.

Thanks Mike and Michele. He is a pretty happy kid and most of the photos I have of him show it. For my first portrait I probably should have done something other than a child; my father's gruff face was so much easier to paint and to get the likeness down. The color is a little off on this one, but you get the idea anyway.
