| This is another pastel I finished last fall. 12 x 18 on Wallis paper. I think I am going to remove the green along the left hand side corner.. Any thoughts? |

| My first thought as I looked at this was WOW! I wish I could do this! Afterward, I read your question about the green in the lower left hand corner... I think you could remove it... I don't know if I feel it is a MUST to remove it as it is a subtle element that helps move your eye into the painting. But I think it would work without it too. What does your instinct say? I'd follow that. |

This is beautiful. I love the intense colors of the flowers. I didn't notice the green tree at the bottom left side until you mentioned it, but yes, I'd remove it because I don't think it's needed. Maybe you added it as a stopper? The eyes don't leave this painting because of the colorful flowers.
I think I'd change the trees behind the grasses. They may be competing with the flowers (which I think is the focal point?) so I'd dull them in intensity and detail.
I'd dull the hills/horizon also by making it a less intense color. Also, I'd probably change it to a lighter color like lavendar so it recedes.
And I'm wondering if the sky may be just a little too intense. I think I'd lighten it, especially at the horizon line. It makes a great place for the eyes to rest.
Three things I'm thinking - don't let anything compete with the focal point, use cool and less intense colors in the background for depth always have a place for the eyes to rest.

I don't think the green is necessary either, the bold colors are going to keep the eyes focused. Love the colors but would agree with Michele that I can't find the focal point. If I look down I get drawn to the amazing colors of the field of flowers, but if I look up and can get trapped in the lovely trees. Of course I would rather have a painting with two focal points than one with none. Regardless, I think it is a beautiful painting.
