Love your portraits, Bruce!!!
Do you like the Nupastels? I always thought that they were a little hard. Obviously they work great for you, but what is your opinion of them as far as softness and quality? I've heard a lot of complaints on the Canson paper also, but I like it!
Excellent color choices, and I like the way you brought the background color into the portrait and vice versa....Great work here, Bruce!
Mike

P.S. I'm very sorry to hear about your studio, Bruce...

Hi Bruce! This is just beautiful! I love portraits and this is a wonderful piece. Sorry about your studio too. I lost most of my artwork from college due to a flood years ago and I know how it feels.

Hi Bruce...........What a terrible shame about your studio and losing all of your paintings! I am so sorry for you...........By the way, Larry Blovits did a brief program for our art group, and he showed slides of some of the students' work from the workshop he did in Australia. Your portrait of "Joe?" I think, it was, was one of the paintings he chose to show. I recognized it at once from your posting on this forum. I hope you didn't lose that piece. This portrait is simply beautiful. Her hair is down so well! How are youdoing on your book? Good luck to you. Gene

Milke I find the hardness of the nu-pastels very good for fine detail, when I first receive the pastels I sharpen them to a fine point and sue them to draw the portrait with.. I use the smooth side of the canson paper and it holds the pastel very well.. The trick is to use very light strokes when you lay the pastel on the paper and build the painting up in layers.

Ida thanks for your nice coments

Kathy .. yes the flood was pretty devastating but I suppose thats life.. This is the first painting since the flood and for some reason its probably my strongest work..

Hi Gene.. Tell Larry I am very flattered he chose to use my painting for his seminar.. the painting of JIm did get damaged but luckily it was leaning against the wall and only got water damage on thebottom 4 inches of paper.. Can you ask Larry for his email address, I've tried to email him via his website but it doesn't work..

Thanks for stopping by folks,

Beautiful Portrait! You've done a wonderful job with the expression and the skin tones! I'm SO happy that you've found your way back into your studio. My studio was flooded a while back (9 yrs ago) and I lost everything too. I can completely relate! congrats on a piece wonderfully done!

Hi Bruce,
Nice to see you back again. I can stop wondering why it's been so long.
So sorry to hear about the loss of your work. That's a tuff one to bounce
back from, but I see you haven't lost any of your skill and talent. Another
beautiful portrait! The first of many more to come I'm sure.

Bruse... I echo all the comments above.. it really is a beautiful painting. Isn't it strange that after going through something emotionally difficult that we seem to graduate a level in our painting. It is almost like the love for what we enjoy doing comes back with new found strength.. There is a silver lining to every cloud. Christine

sorry to hear about your loss of paintings.
You still are to me one of the best when it comes to pastel portraits.
