What is that little dog thinking about?  He is really well done, and not just cute, but expressive!  Reminds me of a dog I once new.  You should do more of them!  do you like to do them?  Hope so!

Very nice Mike. I see you did this in pastel pencil. I did get a set of the ones that you suggested to me earlier. I really like them. I also like the "feeling" you put into the dog. I'm trying to capture a "feeling" in my subjects when I'm painting. Thanks for showing us that it can be done. jjj

I am curious about the dog...wouldn't the owner want this?? Dog paintings fetch big bucks! You captured his personality and life very well...it's not just any old dog as so many animal renderings are. Very Nice...but what kind of greeting card??

Alicia, Thank you!

Ida, I would say that he is waiting for someone? I do like doing the card commissions, but the client is done for the season (mrketing time is near) and I have too many other irons in the fire right now. Thank you for your positive feed back!

Jay, thank you also! Your work is improving with each and every new piece that I see. I'm sure that you are learning a lot from all of the very talented artists' on here....I know that I am!

What a pose! Great capture of the moment.
I've seen my dog give me that look. It's like
he's saying "You gonna finish those fries?"
Great job Mike!

I really like this Mike!.. It is soft, yet has a lot of feeling to it. Is the dog yours? Nice work!. Christine

great jack russell Mike! definitely captured it's personality. Should the bench be a little darker, or slightly different color to make the dog stand out a little more? It might be the scan, but he almost seems to blend into the bench a little to me.

Hi Mike! This is just beautiful! You make me want to get some pastel pencils too. I haven't used any in years so I"d have to invest. Lovely piece!

Hi Cindy, I'm sorry I missed your questions above. I will answer them now..
I am supplied the reference photos by the client which assures me they are copyright and royalty free. The client is working closely with an attorney, so I'm compelled to believe what is told to me. I build the image from my imagination and reference photos provided.
These are greeting cards that the client is 'wording' and choosing images that fit the words that are created for each card. I am not at liberty to disclose titles, words, or any other pertinent information associated with these cards until they are printed. I am also only allowed to display card commissions on my website that will promote the base of my work, i.e. this one because my base is mainly 'animal art'...
I hope this answers your questions and thank you for the compliments!
Mike

Gene, thank you very much!

Jim, thank you! And yes, I've seen that look from my daogs as well!

Hi Christine, Thank you. Nope the dog isn't mine...the client supplied the dog.

Thank you, Justine! I agree with you on the bench, but it was at the the client's discretion as to what to do with it.

Hi Kathy, thank you also! Yeah, I like those pastel pencils! Go get some, you'll enjoy using them again!!!! i like the Carb-othellos the best.

Mike

For me, it is tough to let go and let the paying customer do what they want. In my day job (graphic designer) I have to do it every day. It's easier there because that's just a job. You did an awesome job.

Mike - this is so cute.
Obviously you are very talented. I see your work in many of the forums and you are accomplished in many different styles. I'm impressed. I always find myself sticking to one medium - you are very good.

Justine, That's exactly why I DON"T like doing commissions. I quit doing commissions years ago cause I always felt 'trapped' in my art. I've slowed down on them again, but unfortunately, I do need to make money so I will continue to do them. I have other pieces going that are 'mine' and that seems to help keep my sanity in check!

Maggie, thank you! You are very kind....I like variation so as not to become bored.

Hi Mike,  Your post about the sharpener for pastel pencils led me to the ASW art supply site, which I'd not know about.  I'd been using the conte pencils but not happy with them for some applications ...now eagerly awaiting shipment of the carb-Orthellos and a sharpener too boot!  Thanks for the shared product info.  Is there a quick way to search on this site to view all your other art postings?   Sara

Justine, yeah it's tough sometimes, but it all works out! LOL

Hi Sara. You should really enjoy thse pencils, I know I do! I think if you click on my name it will bring you to where all of my postings are listed. Then just search for the ones without re: in front of them. Those should be the postings with my art work. If not you can visit my website at www,portraitsoflifestudio.com and most of my work is posted there...
BTW, ASW has some really good deals on supplies at times!

Josi, Thank you very much!
