I started this picture with the intent of following a new painting process to me. I got to about halfway through step two when my mind and hands took over and I just painted the way I wanted . This is a four-step process to achieve more radiant color and light which I'm not sure I achieved. I'm not looking for compliments (although they won't be rejected ) but rather what you see that you either like or don't like and any suggestions based on your opinions. Thanks!!

what is the new process? what did you do differently to veer away from it? it is a lovely subject, like taking a nice walk. Maybe the trees in the back where the the path disappears should be darker, like the shadows are deeper because your father away from them and the sun is trickling in where the viewer is. Plus the shadows on the trees are that are closer are darker right now then the ones that are further away? should it be the other way around? |

Hi Justine,
Thanks for commenting. The four step process is from a book by Susan Sarback. Step one is stating the major masses. Step two is refining the masses with value, temperature and chroma. Step three is starting to add color bands and hence detail. Step four is refining all things such as edges, values, etc. I stumbled at being sure I had the values, temperature and chroma correct before I charged onto creating the final picture. Based on your value comments, plus an observation of my own (the light on the road should be brighter) I'm pretty sure that skipping the refining in Step two was the wrong path to take. Thanks for helping me see the light.

I think this is very well done and the comments you received on the background I think would make this more dramatic. The road is great. Jim

| I like this one, Michele. I think you handled the shadows so well. It looks like you have been painting your little heart out! Good for you. |
