| I would like to introduce my pastel artwork to the forum of the Artist Network. My pastels are the results of a collaborative effort by Ron Schmitt and myself. Ron and I have been painting in this fashion since 1983. We work at the same time on each individual piece. We stand shoulder to shoulder and develop the painting without any initial discussion as to what we are going to paint. We just start out jamming with a dark blue pastel and develop the painting until we are collectively satisfied that we are done. This painting the Edison Project was done this past year and is a typical example of a finished piece. Our web site www.schmitt-hall-studios.com has a large number of our works from recent years. I invite you all to respond with your comments as to our painting process that we believe is unique to us. |

Very Freaky!-and I mean that it in a good way! Process and composition-freaky...How often do you paint? Is it hard to hook up with your painting buddy? Do you also paint solo? I could not imagine painting with someone else. Do you ever get on each others nerves? What happens when one of you do not like the result? I have to know! Great stuff! Mike |

| Hello Mike - Here are a few answers to your questions. Ron and I try paint once a week however life gets in the way and we end up painting about 45 times a year. Ron lives fifty miles from me now and I travel to his studio for these painting dates. We start our day around 9:00 AM and conclude about 12 hours later. Our breaks come when we stop to fix the pastels allowing us to layer our colors much like Degas. Both Ron and I do individual work however Ron is wed to a day job while I working to promote and advance our work through galleries and the internet along with my own work. As for your final two questions they go hand in hand. After over twenty years of working in this fashion we have learned to check our egos at the door realizing that what truly matters is the final product. If one of us has just completed the perfect line and the other bulldozers over it we hold out tongue realizing that we had the moment of successful portrayal, we stick that one in our tool belt and wait for the next time it is the perfect solution for the moment and then we bring it back out. |
