My first try at soft pastels. I posted in oil patels too because that is what I started with, and now I just wanted to post one more thing. I really am just starting out on this so anything you can say I would greatly appreciate it.

I think is good for your first one. I love the simplicity and balance of the colors. It makes for a calm painting that doesn't confuse the viewer. The top window is abstract and very pleasing. The railings seem a bit raw compared to the rest. And I'm not sure about the bottom window - I think it conflicts a bit with the focal point (staircase). And the line to the right of it might not be needed. That said, to keep the eye moving, I might put something in that area like a small table. But I wouldn't change this painting; instead, start a new one. Keep this for reference to see how you progress.

Thank you for your reply. I have noticed a lot of things once i was done that I could of done to make it better, and also i noticed that all though i meant to make the walls look dirty, it just made the drawing look dirty. I'm just sort of learning as I go. I love you idea about the table, and your right about the bottom window. I really could have done without the window and the line. It's nice to get some real critique.

Hi- Not bad for a first time. Allot of beginners just keep painting the same subject over a few times- like a study of it. With different colors, different times of day, different angles. Good luck Jason
