My class is giving me many opportunities to try new things.  How about this little guy?

Cool! Well done. What a face...one that only a mother could love!

This is so nice! And I love the colors you chose not only for the bird, but the way you incorporated them into the bricks in the background. What class is this that you are taking? Gene

Thanks for the comments Jim.  I really enjoyed painting this one.  I did another one, but had a hard time with the blues on a baby Jay.  I think I will try a few more.

Gene,

Thanks!  It turned out great.  I started this in class and finished it at home.  I am taking a class at the North Shore Art League in Winnetka, IL.  The class is 3 hours long and the teacher has helped me with my perspective, color choices and subjects.  I tend to like landscapes the best, but decided to try some animals.  I did one of my cat that came out great, so I thought I'd try some birds.  Glad you liked this one!, my sisters thought it was a little scary, but I think it's rather cute.

Hi Duende,
Thanks for your comment. I was thinking of trying to put this in a juried show, but can't make my mind up.
Any comments about whether this would get in a show? There is a limit on size and this is 8 x 8, largest size allowed. It's a show "called mug shots", so it may work. I also did a rooster head and I may put that in.

Thanks again for your positive comments,
Deb

It is a great rendering of a bird - very expressive and the colors are vibrant.  Good choice for "Mug Shots"..

Thanks for your comments Cindy!

Good to see you on here.  I think I am going to enter the show by the end of the week and hopefully my sweet little guy will be accepted into it.

This is a super work. If the jurors don't accept it, they need their heads examined.

Thanks sboyko,

I need to get the application out before the 10th and hopefully it will be excepted.  Your comments makes me feel like it's worth the try.

Hi Mickc,

I just sent out the application for the show today, I will keep you all posted.  I will also be doing a showing of my work mid January.  A friend of mine is in a local theater group (Kirk Players) and they want to start displaying artwork for people to look at before and after the show; and during intermission.  So, I am going to put together 10-15 pieces for their January play at the Mundelein High School, in Mundelein, IL.

Thanks for your compliment, I appreciate the encouragement.  Getting your thumbs up really means a lot to me.  Love your work!

Deb, what a wonderful little painting! The character of that little face, and he is just poised on the edge (as they do sometimes) the background is blended and gives depth to the painting, very well done!

Thanks for the encouraging comments, Anna and Sandeep!

I think I have found my niche, birds and landscapes. I love the colors and the details of the feathers and enjoy making these little guys look real. I just finished a red breasted nuthatch and working on a cedar waxwing that are just beautiful. Found a great place to view photos and of course get permission from the photographers to reproduce the images, flickr.com
