There is a local pub named "Hole In the Wall" which is located about 2-3 miles from our A-frame cabin and is visited quite frequently during the fishing season around here. Its tucked away in a small cove surrounded by some of the tallest spruce trees around. During the winter the cove will freeze up with slag ice if it gets cold enough.
It was so dark in the cove that evening that I had to position several remote flashes to capture the shot using low light black & white film. Made several notes on the lighting and colors that evening in my sketchbook; still had to go back on several occasions to study the situation.
Used a full sheet of heavy Arches paper in combination with NuPastels & Unison soft dark pastels to get the strong light and dark contrast. Would've named the painting after the pub, but thought about it being closed for the Off-Season. (if the hyperlink doesn't work please let me know.) |
