While on one of my many job related trips throughout Alaska I was able to snap a black & white photo of a Coast Guard Cutter at low tide located in Juneau Alaska.  This particular pastel painting, Ebb Tide - CGC Naushon (1994), was based on that photo which was completed over several months as time was available in my schedule.  It was my first pastel painting after being away from the arts for a number of years after graduating with a BFA.  Hope the hyperlink for the painting is working; let me know if it doesn't.

I'm curious, is this a work still in progress? The composition and darks are in place, but I'm looking for some depth in the boat, which appears to be the focal point.

This painting is finished; photos washes out some of the detail in on the Cutters supersturcture.  Went back to look at the black & white polaroid photo it was a bit washed out in the Cutter.  Thanks for the feed back this is why I am posting on this forum really looking to other artist for their in put.
