I personally would not want to be a part of the group if all that was said " Is that is good". I get that from my mother. I want to know how to make it better. It makes me grow. Go for all the playing and expermenting you can, failures are successes in the making. We didn't walk the first, second or third time we stood up. We have allow ourselves that do not work sometimes. I love seeing all of us on different levels of growth. scochran |

Wow!!! Your daughter is beautiful and you did a fine job. Everyone makes pastels sound like just a flexible medium to work with. Is there a specific type that is better then the others. I think it is good the hear the pros and cons of things. It helps us to see differently. I feel I have learned alot since I started this forum a short time ago. It helps me to stay focused on art and all that it is.

Thank you Suzanna, I think skin tones are just something you have to play around with. Look at Bruce's descriptions on his painting on how he achieves skin tones. Some of the other posts here of portraits also have some good advise on how to get good skin tone too. Thanks again, Jim

Hi Shana, You are absolutely right. If you are here for ego stroking only, your stay may be a short one. Lots of people want to show there work, but don't take the time to help others with suggestions on improvement. Suggestions help you grow as an artist. Especially some of the suggestions you can get here from really talented people. Jim

Hi Johanna, Thanks for your kind words on Katie's painting. As far as pastels go, I think your going to here a lot of differing views on what people use and whats best. If you listen to the advise from people like Bluiz (Anna), Heather, or Gene on what they use, I don't think you can go wrong. The pastels I use are ones that Heather suggested I start with, the Nupastel prismacolor. I've added Rembrandts and derwent pastel pencils since then. Hope you give them a try. Maybe on the Flower Power project. Jim
