Hi Everyone,

I did this nude on Tuesday on Life drawing class.  It was a 20 minutes post.  I think there is not enough depth, what do you think?

20 minutes is fast working! I love doing these exercises - it forces you to capture the essense and bag all the unnecessary details. You are right, you are missing depth, because it's almost all in midtones - you did a good job on proportion and placement but missed capturing the major graphic abstract which gives you the essence. Next time you do one of these make sure you look for the overall light/dark pattern and get that down first, forget things like her toes or the area around her nipples. After you get the big black / white pattern, begin working on the midtones. In 20 (even 10!) minutes you will be amazed at what life and depth you can capture! This is good work, but would be excellent if you had captured the stronger value differences.

I always think working in a life class is stressful. Figure drawing I love but don't do enought of it. I think you have something you can really build on here. scochran

For 20 minutes this is a really good job, just not finished yet per suggestions above.

Hi Materese,

Thank you for your suggestion, I will definately try it on next week drawing.  I never really learn how to do it in class.  We just have model but no instruction, just draw, watch around, and ask questions.  So it take a long time and hard way to learn but it's the cheapest way, in a way.  I agree with you that I should get the black/white partern first after today's portrait workshop, I now understand more of portraits and figure drawing.  Thanks again!

Thank you Shana and Heather,

I like figure drawing because there are a lot to learn with the body; and all posts are different with various personalities.  Figure drawing is challenging and interesting to me.  It helps me to improve doing quick sketches (I sometime do quick sketches for special community events).  But I hope I could improve my caricature in the future.
