Thank you to all those that have given me advice on how to post my work. I hope this one will work. I am new to the forum. I have been working in pastels for several months. The piece that I am showing you I want feed back on. I am thinking about using it for a fund raiser for the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research. The piece was inspired by a friend that I watched struggle with breast cancer for 10 years, she lost her battle in October. I want to do something good  and I want this piece to count for somethings, so please if you see anything I need to work on, please feel free to tell me. Shana Cochran

Now that I see it is posted, it is not as dark on the Bible as it looks in the posted work, also the bottom of the candle holder is cut of slightly in the posted work;other than that it looks close. This piece is large (23x31) full size of the pastel card board stock. I am not sure where I got the paper but I did like working on it. It is lightly sanded and in a nuetral color. Thanks againg to all that send me advice on what to do to post.

This is quite lovely, and sends the message gently. The only suggestion I have is to put more color on the petals (keeping some warm highliights from candle flame) around the candle flame so it stands out more.

Beautiful picture! The only suggestion I would have is maybe darken some areas in the leaves and petals behind the candle. The flame looks a little lost in the flower behind it. That's just my opinion. The purples in this are just gorgeous! Nice work!

I agree with Heather, I think this is a beautiful piece and the reason for creating it is very touching.

Thank you, I do believe that I will darken some of the leaves behind the flame, and put a few warm tones in the flowers petals. The flame drove me crazy. I wanted it to represent the person that go through these battles. It is really my focial point. Shana Cochran

This is a very nice theme Shana. Well done on the vase,
flowers and candle. I like the background colors to, but the
background itself is a little confusing. I'm not sure what it's
suppose to be. Is it a gauze like sheet behind reflecting light
and the colors from the flowers? Maybe its just suppose to
be colors. Whatever it is it's easy on the eyes.

Hello Shana,

I am impress by your intension; I think everyone should do this once in a while.  The painting is beautiful and very lovely.  To me, I think I would blur the back ground to the left of the picture, it seems to compete with the flowers.  I like the top right coner; and the bottle right coner, I would blur it more.  Since this picture is for the breast cancer fun raising, the candle becomes very important symbol here.  To make it more lively, add some tear wax at the edge of the candle and darken the frame plus blur the flowers at the back.  I like the pink ribon; it adds so much more meaningful to this picture.  One thing that I am not sure is that the candle holder seems has more space to the left.  This is going to be a successful artwork, congredualation!

Shana, Your painting has a very spiritual feeling about it. I know you have gotten a lot of suggestions so its difficult to decide sometimes if you agree, unless you actually make the change. So I can only say... I feel the emotion and I think that's important, and I like what I see to be a light and dark contrast which makes me sense the light and dark of the struggle. Very nice, I wish you great success!

Thanks to all for the responses and feed back I have really struggled with this piece because of my own feelings. I think the Susan G. Komen ( Arkansas) Foundation is going to endorse this for me, so it is legitimate. Now I have to get a good professional photo and a good printer to carry out what I want to do.All at my cost and then see where it will go. If anyone has ever gone through that and has an suggestions, I will take them. I am so hooked on this forum. You guys are GREAT!!!! I live in a rural area where art is just a little hobby to most people. Little Rock is 3 hours from me, and that is the nearest museum.
Some small towns around, mostly 30 minutes away that have art groups and small shows, I do try to be a part of those, but this is great!!!!! scochran

Shana,
Are you going to have a raffle for your painting as a fundraiser?
I had a few gic'le prints made of one of my colored pencil paintings. I am donating a framed print as a "Relay for Life" fundraiser. I'm pretty sure that you know that this to raise money for the American Cancer Society for cancer research. I'm selling raffle tickets for mine and I just wondered if you were doing the same.
The title of mine is "Windows of the Soul" and it's posted in the Art Clinic forum. I had hoped they would select it to critique but I don't think it's going to happen. Oh, well.
I, too, have lost some good friends to cancer. I hope your fundraiser is successful.

I am going to set up a table at "Relay for life" and sell prints there. The profits from the prints will go to the breast cancer search for a cure. I going to do this for the next few months. The prints aren't limited edition gic'le type; I am trying to keep the cost down so that alot of people in my rural area can aford them. I hope it does well. I have never done any thing like this before. Good luck with your raffle. scochran

Shana,
You are putting so much effort into the fund raising. I can't help with finding a photographer or printer but I can wish you great success in this endeavor. You are sure to sell a lot of prints because this is truly an original painting, and well done.
