I like this. Your fur is nice and eyes are hard to do. The grass coloring is good but it may be a little to wavy. Kinda looks like your under water, but that's just my opinion. Jim

Hi Suzanna, Is this blurry because the photo is blurry? Or did you soft blend it all? If you have pastel pencils I would sharpen the line around the eyes a little. I agree with Jim, the grass is a little too curvy, and overwhelming the kitty. I suggest taking out some of the background grass to give the feel the kitty is looking through the grass. Kitty is small in comparison to the grass, so if you wanted it surrounded in grass I suggest slicing each blade in half with the pastel pencils, this way it would not overwhelm kitty as much. These is just my suggestions, it is your piece of work so take or ignore. The kitty is adorable and overall this is a good painting. |

Thank you Jim & Heather. I have a hard time taking good pictures with my camera. The photo is blury. I agree the grass is to wavy. I new somthing was not quite right. I like the idea of cuting the grass down and sharpening the edges and around the eyes. I used some colour pencil for the fine lines on the eyes. I don't have pastel pencils. But I am goning to buy some for sure. I really enjoy pastels. I am happy to use the suggestions and I will resubmit after I make these changes. I just love this site and I am so happy to be able to talk to real artists. Thank you again for you suggestions and nice comments, Suzanna |

| Suzanna..........If I were you, I would add some color to the kitten's fur. White is rarely pure white. Take a look at some pastel paintings in Pastel Journal at your local art store, or library, and see if you can spot some paintings of snow. I think you will be surprised to see how much other color you would see in the kitten's fur. Now, I have a hard time with this myself, so I know it isn't easy to do. Good luck........Gene Hey, when I tilt my screen at a different slant, I do see some other colors, so if I am way off base, ignore what I just wrote, o.k.? Have fun..........Gene |

Thank you Gene, I will repost it when I complete the changes. I'm still working on the grass. I will have to fix the fur aswell after tampering with the grass I seem to have messed up the fur abit. I am having trouble removing some of the colour and adding more. I hope I won't have to start it all over again. over all this is still fun and great learning experence for me. ohsuzanna

I like this piece Ohsuzanna. I have never worked with pastels before. So I don't have a clue on how it handles. Will have to buy some and try it. Gene is right. white is rarely pure white, even though to our eye it appears to be. It is the contrast of light and dark that seems to build body and character. When I used to do eyes I used to leave the whites white untill I learned that you have to off set the white with a hint of something else. I find art like plastesine. One puts it on and takes if off until it is molded. I use Ticky-tac from office supplies to lift pencil color from a picture. I don't know if it will work for pastel. Could give it a try. Just shape the ticky-tac to the shape that you want to lift, then press and lift. repeat if needed. Art is good for the soul I find. I think it is a will always be a learning curve for all. No matter how good we may be.. |

I like this. it has an abstract quality to it. if anything, I would make the grass more blury so it becomes more dreamy and absract. |
