| This is a pastel done with NuPastel and Great American Artworks soft pastels on Kitty Wallis white paper. It is about 10 x 14 unmatted. I did it from a photo taken on the beach of Lake Michigan, looking down from a friend's deck. Comments, please.........thanks. Gene Wish me luck on this posting. It is re-sized to about 75 kb, and is in jpeg format. Right? Sorry if it doesn't work. |

Hi Gene, I'm glad you finally got one to work. This is a beautiful painting. I love the technique, the colors, and the subject. I still want to see Jacob's Ladder. I don't understand why it won't work. It sounds like you're posting it correctly. |

Really love the colors in this one. Great job on getting the Kayaks symmetrical. Hope I spelled that right. Details really pop out at you. Jim

| The perspective is great from this "birds eye view". Everything looks great, except on my computer the sand doesn't seem to have values, no sunlight or shadow as the kayaks have. So if it is my computer just ignore my observation. The kayaks are beautifully done. |

| Gene, very nice, love the details in the boats... I would agree with Heather on the sand... blue shadows lighter whites/tans, work very well on sand and might lessen the light area and focus the eye more on the boats... or not, I like it this way also, the balance is good... |

| Thanks to all who commented. I took it to my art group's critique on Thurs. and got some nice comments. One suggestion was to make the grass in the upper left hand corner lighter in order to show that it is receding. I also was thinking of darkening my shadows, Heather and Anna. I keep looking at it and wondering whether I want that or not. I used a very soft pastel on the sand, and you know, it actually has some real texture in the piece. I mean, the pastel itself feels like very soft sand. I did actually put shadows and highlights in there, but I guess they don't show up as much as they should, so I guess that means emphasizing them more. Easy to do with pastel. That's why I love this medium so much. It is framed in one of those metal frames that are so easy to take apart and pull the painting out of. So, that may be my project today. I do appreciate your comments and suggestions. Thanks.........Gene |

| Gene, Repost when you have adjusted, I would like to see it. I just miss seeing the yellow of sunlight on the sand. I do agree with the grasses in the background, I didn't mention it as photos do not do work justice. Your work is beautiful. |

| It'll be a little time before I get it re-done, Heather. I just started a new painting, a snow scene with pine trees in my park. I have to finish that one in the next few days before having foot surgery....... But, I'll re-post this one after I get it done. My son, who is moving from Manhattan to San Francisco in a few weeks has claimed this one. This internet sure is nice in keeping in touch with him. He viewed this painting and claimed it for his own. And I think I can even carry it on board a plane when I go to visit him for the first time. Thanks for all of your comments. ............Gene |

Hi Gene, Yes you can carry it on board at this size anyway. I did that last year with an 11x14 canvas. I wrapped it in bubble wrap so it could be seen without them touching it, and carried it in my heavy fabric tote bag and it fit under the seat. No problems at all. Good luck with your foot surgery, and quick recovery. |
