| Very well done. As Jim said above, your play of light is just right. I also like the way you took the colors a step higher than natural. |

| Cedarcroft, Wow! I don't usually like oil pastels as a rule, but WOW, you have really captured this NJ moment! Where in NJ are you? I am in Monmouth County. The colors are wonderful, cool and warm at the same time... lovely! |

| This is very nice. I don't know much about oil pastels, but you seem to know how to handle them very well. Love the colors and the light and I like the way you are taking our eyes way back into the woods. Makes me want to go for a walk in there......Thanks for posting.........Gene |

There are some nice things going on in this painting although I wonder about the dark, or vagueness of the dark areas. Sometimes it's difficult to tell true values on these posted digitals. So I guess my question is : is the painting deliberately light throughout? Then, is developing rich dark areas something that's difficult with oil pastel?
I ask because I work in dry pastels but have purchased some decent oil pastels (mostly Sennelier) to mess around with. So far I haven't had much success using them straight out of the box. Rather than the crisp, vibrant and reflective hue I get with dry pastels, there seems to be a lot of mid-tone neutrals (we used to call that "mud") popping up uninvited. Any advice you might have as to technique certainly would be helpful.

I enjoy this piece. The colors feel cool, crisp much like the late autumn or early winter air. It does seeam like the shadow areas could be pushed a little more to create greater contrast. I assume that is snow or the earth is alight color on the path? Perhaps adding a bit of the color tone from that purple tree in the middle right. It may be the digital image washing some of the color out.
These are little things, but overall this is visuallly delicious. |

Beautiful Ceder-- I grew up in South Jersey and can still remember the feel of sandy roads between my toes. I guess if you aren't from there you don't realize the unusual kind of soil. It is soil but has a high sand content so becomes soft and sandy in the dry summer months...and very light in color. We were the barefoot towheaded decendents of early colonists. Keep drawing...few people know about the area! |

Really nice. I love the many colours you used through your trees and the brightness of the sun's shadows. Very soothing but crisp. |
