| This is the first in a series of miniatures I am doing, as Tammy introduced me to them on e-Bay. So thought I would try some. Comments welcome. |

Compared with your Pastel of the same subject I see that the fur in this painting doesn't show the same well defined texture -I am not a oil painter but I guess it is more of a challenge to do fur in oil than in pastel? But the eyes are just as well done in this one. And you are successful in painting the white whiskers on white in this one.
A well done piece.

Frank, you are correct, usually I will blend my oils like I do the pastels, but this is so small my fingers are too big! Plus I did an acrylic underpaint like I sometimes do on my larger pieces, but it doesn't really work that well this small. Thank you for stopping by and giving me your comments.
LMB, thank you for looking and commenting - this is 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, I use a magnifying glass to paint these, very tiring on the eyes but lots of fun.
Here is closeup of her. |

| Heather, this is so nice! I can't imagine painting anything quite this small. That web-site with all of the little paintings sounds like fun. Post more if you have the time. And have fun with them. Can't wait to get up and start painting again myself.Beginning to get a little stir-crazy! Gene |

| Heather, You paint your cat with very well, pastel or oil! Did I miss something? on miniature painting? Do you have ebay postings? I couldn't do this, since my eyes started going I have a difficult enough time with regular size... I give you a lot of credit! |

Hi Heather, This is so cool! You have got a lot more patience then I do. It's amazing the detail you get doing something that small! Good luck with the e-bay thing. Jim

Heather, This is very nice. Is this the same as " Aceo" that tgfleet was telling me about? Or maybe Tammy is tgfleet. These names confuse me sometimes. I prefer to call people by their real (first) name. Anyway, do you plan to sell them on e-Bay? I'll bet they would sell very well. |

Gene, thank you and yes I am having fun with them, the time flies by. It is hard on the eyes doing detail this small.
Jim, thank you for your support and good luck, yes it does require patience.
Ron, yes this is the ACEO on e-Bay, I posted it yesterday. I am hoping to eventually sell them, it takes time to get noticed. Yes, Tammy is tgfleet.
Finally, doing this I am manifesting a desire I have had for a long time, doing fantasy art, in this area of e-bay the buyers love fantasy. I am working on a mermaid underwater (mermaids are very popular). Tammy does mermaids so well. Will post it when I am done. It just is taking time to get used to working this small. |

Heather, I too work large and small and very small. Creating a postage stamp size is certainly challenging. I love these little ones. What is the web site you mentioned for small paintings?' Would you send it to me? danserea@bellsouth.net |

Heather, I just thought of a question I would like to ask you about these miniature paintings. What are you painting them on? I can't wait to see some of your fantasy work! |

Jess, thank you for your comments, I appreciate it.
Wandan, it is http://stores.ebay.com/Art-by-Heatherm that is my e-bay store, not much on it yet, more loading tomorrow. Regular site is www.ebay.com
Ron, I am painting them in oils on Canson 140lb cold press watercolor paper (it is quite thick), I do a wash of oil first then paint on it. It is working out very well, no problems. I am almost finished with my first underwater mermaid, will probably be done tomorrow and if not dry enough to work on it then the day after, and you can see it then. |

Heather, this painting is one of the best I've seen you do. You must use a magnifying glass when you work so small. The detail is very fine. |

Thank you Anna, I appreciate your comments.
Thank you Richard for the compliment, you are correct, I use a magnifying glass for all of it, frequently stepping back to look at it with naked eye. My brushes are very small. I have named it "I am waiting" because she is always waiting for me to do something for her, and she fixes her lazer beam glare right between my eyes until I obey. |

Heather, you've done a wonderful job with great details in such a miniature painting. In that I wouldn't change a thing. The only problem I have with it involves the composition itself. The positive and negative spaces are off balance by having a small portion of the blue background moving around the cats head to the bottom of the canvas. That sliver of blue gives the cat a feeling that it is falling off to one side. While in it's self that is not entirely bad, when you cropped the image to show us a close up of the eyes, you solved the problem and created an even more interesting composition. I like there the way the whiskers shoot up from the face breaking up the blue background behind it into more interesting shapes.

JM, Thank you so much for your ciritque! I have been thinking something was off but couldn't put my finger on it, as this is exactly the way she was sitting. I had painted it with an extra 1/4 inch border all around so I could handle it while wet. When I crop it to size I will crop the left side to the tip of the left whisker and the top will also crop to whisker, this still leaves a little I can crop on other two sides. This will eliminate the negative space problem. Also, thank you for the compliment, much appreciated. |
