Starting to get the hang of doing still life paintings alla prima. Really quite fun. With these two I had a lot of extra paint on my pallet that was starting to get a bit tacky so I pulled out my plethora of toys and found some that would match the left over paint. The marbles are my fist painting done completely with a pallet knifeHere are my two most recent.
"The Kiwi" 6x8 oil on Raymar panel
"Prize Marbles" 3x5 oil on Ampersand gesso board |

For these size paintings you might want to look into a pointer or smaller pallet knife. Personally I don't know how you did such a good job on such small panels. Kathy |

| Your "prize marbles" is my favorite of the 2 paintings- colors, composition and knife work is excellent. |

Kassie I was using the smallest knife they had at the store. You have to step back to really see the painting. I've seen painters use a similar technique with landscapes and wanted to try it out for myself.
Robert thank you! I'm quite liking the pallet knife too. I've always used them for texture and such but never to actually "paint" the painting on. It was real fun.
Priti thanks! I like the marbles best too. More sentemental value to me. We used to play marbles all the time when I lived in Mexico. And I've collected them ever since. |

You're doing a beautiful job with the pallette knife, I, too, am amazed at your skill with the size of knife you're working with. Keep it up! |
