Kassie - what a wonderful painting. I love your colors, and your attention to detail is impeccable. Very nicely done!

wow.... amazing work everyone Maggie, Nancie, Brian, Jim, Kassie. Great work, all the paintings really look better than the photo. A combination of a busy week and a difficult painting made it hard for me to finish.

Nice job Jim and Kathy. It's amazing to see how everyone's turned out. Kathy, mine was 22x28" oil on canvas.

Brian,
You've got a lot of millage in that canvas. Distance looks vast. By the way that ID picture, is that a painting? I like it. I haven't tried a self portrait since way back when I started painting. I did it in front of a mirror and I looked like porky pig. Now that would be an interesting challenge. Every one could do a self portrait and submit before the end of the year. I can see Holly ready to pull her hair out now.
Thanks every one for your comments and compliments.

Hi Everyone,

Your paintings all look great.  I'm attaching Weekly Challenge #3.  It is a picture that I took canoeing with my wife up Santa Elena Canyon on the Rio Grande.  Mexico is on the left and the cave is known as 'Smuggler's Cave.  I hope that you all enjoy painting it.  I'll also start this as a new thread.

All of these are great! Just wanted to pop in and see what everyone had done and I am happy that I did...

This is great.  I love everyone's version of the photo.  It is amazing how we all see things just a bit differently.  Jim - your colours are absolutely beautiful, bright and light.  Kassie - you are good at details - event the 'waves' in the water are so well done and to top it off.. you got the chair along the walkway in there too!.

Leon - what a challenge - never painted a rockface before so this is going to be interesting!.  Nancie - the next one is all yours (Challenge #4).

This is a learning experience - personally I think after looking at all these, I have to slow down and take it easy.  I guess I'm always running in my life and it shows in my painting.  So.... I'm.... going.... to.... slow... down.... a bit!    Maggie

What beautiful renditions!  I'm sorry to have missed contributing, but life happens.

I hope I get a chance to join you all on the next one.

Here's my attempt.  I worked this over three evenings.  WC pencils and graphitint pencils.  WC paper, 4x6.  Good challenge!

Excellent impression. Do you work with WC pencils often?

Kathy, thank you! Actually, this was my first painting using the pencils. And I don't do watercolors. My pallette was limited because I don't have a lot of colors, some to include a $3 box of generics that aren't of the best quality, so I tried to overlap some with the hopes of not gettig too muddy. Last night I bought a couple of new colors and I have five more graphitint pencils arriving Monday so I look forward to experimenting some more. The funny thing is, a coworker and I were talking one day and she mentioned the graphatints. I gave her mine to play with for a couple of days; she was the one that told me I could use water with them. I had purchased them in the past because I loved the colors and was using them for drawing. I'm always learning.

Kim - great job.  You got me thinking of pencils also.  I've only stuck with oils and never really ventured out.  I think it is time!   I love your version of the picture.  You are very good.

Maggie, thank you so much. It thrills me that I've got you interested in them, too. (I've stuck with oils, also.)

Last night I was reading the colored pencil article in the October issue of Artists Magazine. Needless to say, I certainly didn't read the part about the wc pencils in the first read since I didn't have an interest. Guess what? You can run the wet brush over the pencil and then apply the color to the paper. I bet you already knew that (I didn't.) I draw and then apply the wet brush to the lines and/or shading. I find this a lot of fun (maybe because I'm somewhat of a control freak!) lol

Everyone has done an amazing job on this challenge.  I wish I had time to comment on each one.  Beautifully done by all whom have submitted.
