This is still very much a work in progress, it's oil on canvas 48x60. I'm not really done with any aspect of it but I'd like some input from some people with "fresh eyes". Thanks in advance!
PS. It looks a little distorted because of the angle I took the pic at.

Sorry I can't critic (wouldn't know what to look for), but I must say... I love it. I like the shadows and your blending of the face is really well done. The subject of the whole painting is quite interesting. Very quiet and personal.

I love the size here Well done and unique, as is all your work. I'm wondering about those objects around the mirror. You've made the mirror your focal point, and they seem to be pulling me away from it. I look forward to seeing it completed.

| A beautiful piece in progress. I just love her pouty mouth, and you have a good handle on blending. But Bill is right about the mirror being your focal point. The dark colors of the clothing around the lighter shades of the mirror draw the eye. Maybe if you soften those colors or even eliminate the clothing. The only other thing I see and I know it's already painted this way, but for composition's sake I'd like to see all of her inside the canvas, that would have moved her more into the focal point area. Also I would break up the white of the TV screen, it's drawing too much attention. Also need some shadows under the TV stand and the little box to ground them, they are floating. I love the beautiful shades of green you have used to make the shadow areas of your whites, I'll have to remember that, blues and purples don't always work well. Thanks for a new perspective on color. Peggy |

| Hi - love this piece but I have a strange question. How do you get a canvas this size home! Do you buy the canvas and then stretch it yourself? |

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words! This piece is taking me FOREVER to finish. Peggy and Bill - I agree about the mirror and I'm going to address that soon. I just added in a background wallpaper pattern and I'm waiting for that to dry, but once it is dry I'll be able to finish everything else up. I have a week and a half to finish it for school! Ahh!
Maggie - I bought this canvas (stupid) it costed me about 100 bucks, but it's a nice canvas with a pretty deep profile...you have to know someone with a van or truck, lol. Luckily my dad has a huge work van and my boyfriend has a blazer that the canvas just fits into. |

I like it alot Baja. Great piece as always. Can't wait to see it finished.
Sometimes having a large vehicle is a detriment at the art supply store. I know, I have a 89 Suburban 4 wheel drive. Those big canvasses can really be tempting when they'll fit into your vehicle! I've purchased several. LOL

Hi Baja...I really like this!
You have a wonderful eye...trust your instincts.
I don't seem to mind the fact that she's off canvas a bit...I think that makes the picture more "immediate" as a writing friend of mine says...you are instantly "in it". The girl and the chair are wonderful and I'm sure you will finish fine. I'm not a big "what's the message" person in art myself...but if I had to guess this picture makes me think of how girls today are so influenced by the media around them that they don't know how truely beautiful they are...too consumed with comparing themselves to what they imagine is the "ideal" of the day. Hence the pout...instead of a smile. If that's not right...it's just what you're picture made me think of. Keep going...it's really good. |

| Thanks everyone for all the compliments! And River, thanks for the analysis - you're right on point with the "message" of the piece. Well, I'm still working on it and have done a few more things including some little "cleaning up" things that you can't really tell from this pic. I need to finish this by Monday so I'll post more when it's all done. Anymore thoughts? |

The background and lighting changes finished this nicely. This has so many good elements to it, it's hard to enumerate them, so I'll just say: Beautiful and powerful!

| Although this is not a style that I am fond of, this is painted well and is appealing in compostion and color. |

Amazing how that wallpaper holds the composition together. I think you could do without the TV screen. B/w are too contrasty. I think it's that white screen that needs to get lost. Everything else is well done. As far as the underpants. It ads a little mystery. Kassie |
