This was my first oil painting, finished 08/2006, when I didn't have any homework .  I had worked with oil pastel before this, but this was my first oil painting - as I said.  It is 48"x36".  Just curious to see if this sparks any conversation, and I would also like to hear any constructive criticism so I can apply it to a new large scale oil painting I'm working on currently.

Wow! This is fantastic. You have great technique, you have captured the mood wonderfully. Many times I see portrait painting without the artist actually capturing a sense of the person and the mood. I think you have done a great job. You obviously understand the proportions of the body well and have a strong understanding of color. I'm really studying this and it is hard for me to see anything that I would say needs to be improved.

Wishing you peace and prosperity,
Naomi

LOL When I read Naomi's reply it was almost exactly the same thing that I was going to say!
I love looking at this work, it is an excellent painting. I cannot see anything that could or should
be changed. I especially like the background work combined with the subject. Exquisite....
Thanks for sharing & looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Amazing first oil painting! I'd say you should keep painting!! It's really great and I imagine you will only get even stronger at making strong contrasts...which I think comes with more practice...but really good!!

I can only say wow!!! Keep on painting. You have too much talent to stop. Wonderful job. Just a few comments. The shadow under the right arm is so abrupt that looks like a cut-out taking a piece of his body away and the same thing goes for the shadow at the left elbow.
Hope he didn't finish the whole bottle.
