I've never really done an abstract that I liked, but this one I'll keep.
I couldn't think of a name for it. I was thinking like "wormhole" or "big bang" and my mom walked in and said "Oh, that very pretty Guru Guru Maki." I said "What?" She said you know round and round. Oh
Ok, you mean spiral. She said "yes, spiral." So it now has a name.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
This draws you right in. I like it, it's great. I find that my eyes are going around and around in the painting. It's almost hypnotic.

Very nice Jim. Makes me think of being on the boardwalk as a kid and they let you squirt paint on a spinning piece of cardstock.

Thanks Leon,
That seems to be what everyone says, in one form or another.
My son says I should call it vortex or whirlpool. Appreciate your comments.

Let me put another spin, pardon the pun, on what I see with this painting, which I really like. I see myself lying down on the ground in a forest with majestic trees above me. These trees are so massive and huge that there is only a small pinpoint opening to the sky, with some scattering of sky filtering in here and there. The trees are so tall, they give the optical illusion of swaying in towards each other. It makes me feel very safe.

Wishing you peace and prosperity,
Naomi

This is so very fluid! It really does pull you in! I see clouds and lava and distorted mountains and frothy rivers being pulled into some sort of white hot disk of plasma!! I AM NOT ON DRUGS PEOPLE!! Have you thought of adding heavy impasto?

Jim, this is great! You really let yourself go with this one! I like the name your mother gave to it. Gene

I usually don't care for abstracts, but I really like this ; you can tell thought went into the values and composition.

Hi Naomi,
Thanks for your feedback. Everyone sees something different in this piece.
It's nice to hear how it affects other people.

Hi Carver,
Thanks for your input too.
If it affects you, then it works. Not familiar with impasto.
What is it, and what does it do for a painting?

I know this sounds crazy but I love abstract. -  Love the colour and the way it makes you feel when you look at it.  I would love to know what you were thinking of  "at the time of creation".  The colours are vibrant and the flow of the paint seems almost quiet -  but alive seeking the center which combines perfection of movement.

Hi Linda,

Jim, impasto is thick paint brush strokes... I usually add it in the highlights to add depth... You can apply it with a brush or knife...

Hi Carver,
I didn't know what it was, but I guess I was doing it all along.
Several of the layers are done with a palette knife.
Thanks,
Jim
