| One more sitting to go... My sister took this picture and I thought it would make a nice painting. I have tried to keep away from detail as I tend to overdo it and try to make it too much like the picture. It is hard to leave it, but I think I'm just about finished. Maggie |

Hi Maggie, I like what you have done with this picture. I checked out your web site and really liked Model, 1974 and Taos, New Mexico. Leon

Thanks Leon - I wish I can recapture 1974 in my paintings. I have found it interesting that paintings change overtime with the same artist. Does this make sense? Have you ever looked back at a painting and said "did I really do that!". I do like what I am doing now but have a special spot in my heart for my old stuff. The one entitled "Taos, New Mexico" was taken while on a ski holiday and I found this fellow especially interesting. Thanks.

| Maggie, I love this! It has a different "feel" that is not often found. Very unique - attractive style, and the subject is sweet. This is one that I would consider long and hard bringing home if seen and offered somewhere. |

| Carver - I know this is probably not the forum - but I think your work is absolutely amazing. I have checked out your website so many times and note the paintings you post for comments also. Your portraits are unbelievable! I have to say I am amazed at your work. I have always wanted to do portraits, but mine never looked like this. You have a very special talent. They are not overdone, but show a quiet beauty about them. I find there is so many good artists on this forum. Great place to network with fellow artists. My friends ski, cycle etc. etc., but none are into the art thing. Thus, I find this forum very interesting. |

Hi Maggie, I like this painting. I like the way you painted the snow. I like the way that you rendered the trees across the water. The interaction between the little girl and ‘grandpa’ is darling. A very nice and well done painting. Leon

| Love the subject and the flow of colour you have used. You seem to have a passion for people and it shows with the expressions of movement and composition. Would love to see it as you work on it. |

| Thanks for all your comments - I have lightened the background, worked on the images, gave the water a bit more life along with the ducks. I think in looking at it I still need to lighten the water a bit and the snow, especially the front part. What do you think. |

Honestly Maggie, The only thing I see is that the ducks need a smidgin more of reflection under them...or at least some dark? I have to tell you, the other side of the river/creek/pond looks really, really good! Lots of depth and very well done... Mike |

Maggie...this is getting really nice. Love the backround now...wouldn't touch it...like the clothes better too!
Would being a bit messier with the forground snow help? It is closer so should show more contrasts perhaps, brighter white patches, deeper shadows? Maybe some footprints! I have been thinking of doing a painting with walked in snow...(and believe it or not we haven't had much out east this winter while everyone else has been being clobbered!) so went onto photobucket and pulled up some other peoples photos of sledding...so I could study how the snow looks all walked in. Maybe that would give you some ideas. |

| Thanks River - I will try to work on the front part of the snow. I do have to figure out how to do footprints - my question would be - do you use grey or showdow blue for the prints in the snow to make it realistic? Any suggestions? Photobucket? Will try to check this out for footprints in snow. Stay tuned! |

| Okay... finally finished - worked on the front of the bank and added a little grass on the right hand side to give it a bit of interest - along with deepening the shadows of the ducks in the water.... Thanks for all your help... I think with your help - this has become one of my favorite paintings. |

Sorry to chirp in so late. This grandpa has to love this one! Love the colors here, Maggie. You can frame this as is, but if I had to ask for one change, it would be to soften that white line between the snow and the water on our side. It seems to be lifting the snow up as it nears the water.
