18 x 24 Oil on Canvas  "Let Your Light So Shine"

This is one in a series of Lighthouses I did a couple of years ago.  I'll share the others if anyone is interested, but this is my favorite out of the bunch.  I did several that I donated as fund raisers for our local Christian radio station, but this one I actually sold. Most of them were inspired by a bit of sky or a building or something and then the rest of the painting just kind of developed out of my mind and on to the canvas.  Sometimes I work my way down the canvas and let the painting do what I call grow.  When I'm painting like that I never know what is going to develope on the canvas.  The snow scene I posted as a Christmas card was like that. With that one I just started painting that dark sky, with the moon shining through the clouds and the snow just seemed to grow out of that.  This one started out with the sunset, just trying to learn something about using all those orangey colors with the violets.  I ended up mixing that orange with almost every color in the painting to maintain the sunset look.  The man that bought it for his wife said it just glowed.  I don't know about that but it is one of my favorites.

This is lovely Peg. You did manage to create the glow of the sunset on everything...amazing that it just 'grew' out of your head and heart!

Thanks for the comments, all.  Here's another one.  By the way, all of my photos of these are done with a high pixel camera, so if you want to see them bigger they can be blown up without losing detail, in fact I have this one as a screen saver and you can see a lot of the work.

I like your style - your paintings are "happy" with so much color and brightness. You did an amazing job on the gradation of the water in the second one. Thank you for sharing.
