12 X24 on board
I've been transitioning from acrylics to oils and it's a huge and difficult shift, but I'm seeing some real benefits, so I'm determined to get there and stay there.
This painting has as many hours invested in it as I would have invested in 5 acrylics of this size, so I'm taking a break!
I saw this in an ad in the Sunday NY Times and it made me think of my college days when we'd go on a cheap date when of our music major friends got free student tickets to the Metropolitan Opera.
Where they put the students, you needed oxygen, but on the way up there, we'd see women dressed like this, accompanied by dapper men in tuxedos. We could barely see from up there, but we could hear the wonderful music and I've been an opera buff since then.
The nostalgia was so powerful, I had to try to paint it.
Lots more to do here. The perpective on some of the steps needs tweaking and the banister is floating and needs more, as does her dress.
The dress was a gorgeous crimson - for Christmas - but I made it this color for harmony.

Suggestions?

Can't wait to see this finished. It looks to be a beautiful piece when done. Very Romantic. Makes me think of things like Gone With The Wind or some of the other old movies. Has a feel of grandure to it. Keep it up.

Bill, I'm in love with this one already! I love the way you capture this time period and the romance. Can't wait to see it finished.

Wow comes to mind...this is how I'd like to be able to paint!

Stick with the oils...I think you'll be glad...takes some drying time...but I paint wet on wet alot so it doesn't slow me down much. You've probably noticed there are non- smelly terps. now too. Cleaning brushes on time is a weakness for me...have to get some elves or something for that!

I'm posting my daughters advice for showing larger images which I also sent to Carver on his violin thread. Maybe you'll be able to show us some close ups with it!

Lovely...

Hi Kim, Peggy and River
Thank you all for looking and commenting.
the way you capture this time period and the romance

Lots of fond memories came back while I was painting this one and I think they show thru.

Thank you for the tips on large pics. I'll see what I can do when I finish this one.
