12 X24 on board I've been transitioning from acrylics to oils and it's a huge and difficult shift, but I'm seeing some real benefits, so I'm determined to get there and stay there. This painting has as many hours invested in it as I would have invested in 5 acrylics of this size, so I'm taking a break! I saw this in an ad in the Sunday NY Times and it made me think of my college days when we'd go on a cheap date when of our music major friends got free student tickets to the Metropolitan Opera. Where they put the students, you needed oxygen, but on the way up there, we'd see women dressed like this, accompanied by dapper men in tuxedos. We could barely see from up there, but we could hear the wonderful music and I've been an opera buff since then. The nostalgia was so powerful, I had to try to paint it. Lots more to do here. The perpective on some of the steps needs tweaking and the banister is floating and needs more, as does her dress. The dress was a gorgeous crimson - for Christmas - but I made it this color for harmony.
