Well, well...  Here is is, 2008!  Happy New Year to this wonderful forum and all the talented and briliant artists that give it life and color!

Please let me know your thoughts on this one, Sunset on Lake Huron, 16x20.  And of course, thank you for looking,

Happy 2008 (first time I've written that year)!

Innovative color choices and nicely painted.

I read somewhere recently that putting the center of interest on the viewer's left is risky because the viewer tends to stop there and that thought is certainly influencing me, but would you have a more readable composition if the sun were positioned on the right side?

Hi Jim...this is really beautiful and striking!

Perhaps just a tiny 'softening' of the atmosphere right at the waters edge would be nice (getting lighter in color as you decend)??

But I am realizing we can only see so much on line...and maybe you have it there.

Hi Jim..........When I first viewed this, I thought, "Oh my, what a lot of orange!" I think I would agree with River when he says to lighten up the sky toward the horizon, maybe. I also think I see a very wobbly looking horizon line. From the distance you are portraying, I don't think you would be able to see the wave formation like that, would you? I don't really know, but that was my first impression. Not being able to enlarge this so I can see it better is not great, but anyway, that's just a thought. I love the way you handled the close-up water. Wish I could do that. I'm taking my first mini workshop in a few weeks using water based oils. Wish me luck...............Gene

Thank you all for having a look and your feed back. I think I'll get a better shot of this and and try to post it this evening. I see the issues that have been brought up prevalent in the photo and less apparent in the painting. Hopefully you'll see a difference and maybe have a second look. 8^)

Jim. Love your painting - checked out your website also and really liked 'dock of the bay' and 'city love'.  You should be very proud.
