...here's an oil I did.

I like it but it is a copy of a small print of someone elses painting so I cannot market it. (Don't know the artist but I could look it up if anyone asks.) The original artist had more reds and oranges but I like more muted colors so toned it down some. Ocassionally I'll copy a painting of someone elses that I like...figuring... I'll like it... and I'll learn something from them. It's 18 by 24 in. or so and done in oils...I like the tray!

It's beautiful...I'm glad to know that other artists use other paintings and photos as a means to do some of their own work. I do the same thing quite often, but I always wonder if I shouldn't be. Of course, I would never sell/market those paintings either and I always feel as if I am learning with each painting regardless of what reference material I use.

...thanks future c!

I didn't go to art school so am not hindered I guess too much by ideas from other people...but it does leave me with the task of learning things the hard way sometimes.

As far as learning by copying something you like...I am pretty sure that Rembrandt's students did it...so we're in good company.

I don't know alot about digital imagery so am learning from my kids that pixels (agh!) etc. might be making a difference in the quality you are seeing on here. I'll ask them if we can make it clearer so that the work can be seen.

Thanks again! I thought nobody would post!!

Your welcome...I love looking at other people's art...it's always inspiring. Good luck with the pixel thing...I think anything over 100 dpi or kps or something or other is considered too large and wont be uploaded. But the quality of your picture is just fine, and a good size, I've noticed some with small thumbnails that I can barely make out.

I love the reflection of light in the tray and the composition of the entire scene works really well, you can feel the depth and it flows nicely. I've always thought that artwork, whether it be a poem or a painting, is beautiful when it can be "felt".

...thanks sweet!  me too...I have a hard time enjoying a picture without emotion...even if it's well executed! But I know everyone has their favorite style.
