She looks very sweet. My last teacher, she always pushed us to paint from life. "Never paint from a photo" she always drummed this into our heads. At first I didn't understand. But now I am starting to see the why of it. But mostly ,, I think it is the color. Your eye takes in hundreds of colors, which a camera cannot capture. Paint from a photo, and you have a copy of a photo. Paint from life and you have a real rendition of what you saw. Don't you think a painting should be from the artists soul? I hope this helps. It has helped me a lot. Sorry if I am being long winded.

Yes true but that is not always possible....this was one of my first oil portraits.

Thanks I love doing portraits now, but then I was actually challenged to do some because I believed I would never be able to.
