If this comes thru he'll be fuzzy.

He's not really a fuzzy kinda a guy.

For all the past blunders, I am truely sorry.

The drawing of his father came to me fast.... He's in the hallway stage...this is where I place him in the hallway and pass by him several times going about my daily duties, glancing each time to see, if I'm ready to start painting.  I do believe we gotta' go.

Thanks everyone on your comps, patience and time.

Rosie

Rosie, he will be very proud to have this painting done by you. He looks like a very caring and nice man. Excellent and worth the wait.

This is really good, although it seems uploading it has been more difficult than painting it!  I like the way it fades out at the edges.  Good luck with the next one.

Beautiful work. Did you contemplate painting the stethoscope around his shoulders?

i have to admit to thinking the same thing......i like the stethoscope in the ref...gives the portrait a different presence, feel, spirit?

but youve done a fabulous job...wonderful likeness though its very hard to see by the size of your ref...eeeeek!

Yes, I had thought for a very long time about the tool of the trade, but...in knowing the man and his initial request for his fathers portrait...the paintings are to hang together, he is not one for pronouncing anything that would alter the respect he has for his father.  The stethescope was left out...the reference photos were shot on the fly in his office between patience, as the photos of reference he originally gave me were 1" square and the other a black and white college, had a little bit of a fro...I wanted to paint the man I know the eyes of kindness and the respect he deserves.

thanks for taking the time for making me feel welcome.

Rosie, this is very nice. I really like the way you faded out the background behind his head. I'm sure he will love it..............Gene

i can relate for sure rosie, opting myself to sometimes leave things out that i consider not necessary to get the ~spirit~ of the person's character!...

Rosie, I find the stark white part of the background blinding. I would tone it down just a little and reduce the intensity of the hot spot on top of his forehead a little. The picture looks like it was taken with a flash and I would like to see it with a little more modeling. Head on flash makes the image too flat. Better to have a light source from the side and maybe a little fill in light to bring in the shadows a little. Very often a white sheet or canvas can be used to reflect some light into the shadows without overdoing it.
Sorry, but I don't mean to belittle your efforts, but these are some of the principals that I have learned in my study of portrait work. It is a nice likeness and I'm sure that it will be appreciated.

The background isn't really white the spot light I had at the side of the painting caused a glare on wet paint.

I don't know if this photo picks up the grey smokey background, I am new at posting photos and adjusting them to be accepted to the website.

I hope I got the numbers right on this one and it comes thru, I had a time posting the first one.

Thanks for the input, I agree with you on having a stark white background, It would not look right.

Try again.

Dr. is so stuborn...he told me he is a very private man and I think this is why I have so much trouble posting him.
