Oil on canvas 16"x20".

I put three photos of the same painting in different light: daylight and electrical, also closer detail.

Julia, I'm admiring this portrait, especially the close up and am totally intrigued. I love how you've captured her personality and how you've used color and brush strokes. I hope to achieve even half of this quality some day! She's beautifully done. (I'm not so sure about the windows, or whatever they are. They look flat while she looks 3d).

Julia, This is a lovely painting, but I agree with Kim, the background part of the painting is not of the good quality that the girl is. There is something wrong with the proportions of the two windows - the sizes are different and as Kim stated they are flat compared to the girl. This might even be better without the background. The background detracts from the portrait of the girl. Your brushwork is wonderful, your fleshtones are great, and there certainly is a lot of personality depicted in your painting of the girl - she is such a flirt!

I love this, is it a self portrait? Really nice expression, and I particularly like the pose. I am no expert but it is very pleasing to me. The others may be right about the background but it doesnt bother me.

Thank you for comments!
My thoughts about background: I don't think that background should be more detailed or defined. It is just atmosphere. No windows, no arches, you can imagine it if you want, it could be a simple wall painted in this way. Because the main subject of the painting is a woman.

Beautiful smile and eyes! I agree, her pose does it and the painting stands as is, though the hard line between the arch windows draws my attention. That said, I don't think I'd change it, nice work Julia. Is this you?

bgs sometimes can make or break an image....usually if i do a portrait style, i try to keep them simple...blurred blended...maybe if you had less detail...more blending back there, it would have been less distraction....although, if this was what you were intending....i might have created the perspective angle of them to go diagonally to the right instead of the left? leading to the figure, i believe because its a compositional element that feels a bit off....that said? i adore the colors, and i dont think thats a surprise to any that know me...lolol....you did a wonderful job painting her...and the personality ~spirit~ of her...not tooo much...nor too lil....and love the way ya handled her brows..~wink~....and the fabric of her dress, as well as her hair.......

all and all i think its a grand painting...yep...
