first off some might find it kind of funny for me as an artist to adore Van Gogh..but i have since i was little..and its for the same reason you speak about jim...his passion!...it show clearly in all of his work...and work without that type of passion can just fall flat...pretty or not...

your painting is gorgeous...and boyo, do i recognize those brush strokes, dabs, stabs and jabs! wonderfully done jim...

and i wouldnt be true if i didnt ask a question...~gulp~
i compared the doors angle to the drawing and his wasnt quite that tilted...is your canvas at a tilt when you photoed it? or is that the tilt of the door?...it appears his isnt quite as skewed..
and i noticed also that his value, in the lights shinning from the house...are a bit higher in value...so it might make the glow from the windows and doorway a bit stronger...?

~I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it~

OWS, you're right, and thanks. It's back on my easel. I'll work on this one with yours and other suggestions in mind. I did do the window light but will probably need to play with that again. Tell me, allied van Gogh admirer; Have you watched Vincent and Theo (Tim Roth)? From all I've read, this seems to be pretty close and done very well.

I had to let it dry for a while...  I was getting too much glare from the lights to take the shot.  It's funny, what I thought would be very enjoyable to do turn out to be a splinter that I just couldn't pull out.  Hopefully this will feed my van Gogh OCD for a wile and I'll go back to landscapes.

Thank you all for enduring this post and all the help you've given me through the painting!

The lighting on this piece really made it stand out. Glad you could get a good
shot of it. Excellent work Jim.
