Hi to Anyone,

This painting is of a horse called ‘Little Rascal.’  He is actually pony size, but don’t think that he can’t be dynamite.  I only allow my more experienced students and staff to ride him.  He will not put up with a heavy hand and has taught many what that means.  I started this painting today and only have about an hour and a half into it.  As I’ve said before I am not very fast.  Hopefully, I will finish this painting before the week is out, although I’ve been known to sit on a painting for a year or two because I can’t make my mind up about it (not so much as to if it is done, but do I want to show something so bad).  This painting is a 9 x 12 on board.

Hi Leon,
Only an hour and a half? Wow, this is great for any length of time let alone an hour and a half.
This is going to be beautiful when you get done. Please show us it's progress.

Hi Everyone,

This is an update of ‘Little Rascal.’  This is the little horse that if you yank him around he will start cow hopping with you.  If you use a light hand with him he’ll do anything you want.

ah loverly colors....and love hearing about his lil quirks...hehee....
foreshortening is such a tricky thing....many times the brain insists on painting one way, while our eyes are seeing something totally different....
the foreshortening of the head shape feels fine until it rises to the forehead...not sure if its the forehead area or the neck that might be a tiny bit off....the neck? is showing as a consistent shape from shoulder to cheek...like a cylinder?...i tend to think it might join into the chest area a lil differently? but not seeing your reference, its hard to judge.....but something about the neck and joining the chest...as if you have lost the deepness of the horses chest?...

Hi Everyone,

A little further along.  Thanks OWS for reminding me to step back and take a look at my perspective.  That’s what I get for not sketching (maybe I should say thinking), before I started painting.

I really love the interesting and unconventional composition of this painting.
