This is a palette knife painting of a photo of Pine St. in downtown Seatte at night.

It's 16 X 24 oil on masonite. There's a little glare, but basically it's what you see.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Jim

Nice painting Jim. The colors and feeling remind me of Van Gogh.

Jim, very vibrant rich colors. I like it! The only thing I would suggest is that the foregound near bottom of canvas could use some darker values to emphasize the distance of the sidewalk and road, a light glaze would do it. Just a suggestion.

As the painting was coming up on my monitor I too was thinking of Van Gogh. Great going that Jess too thought the same thing, being compare to Van Gogh is not a bad thing. This is rich and I bet you loved moving the paint around with the palette knife on the board. I have not tried the masonite board yet, do you like it? scochran

Hi Shana,
Thanks for taking a look too, and also the comparison. I like the masonite for these kind of paintings
because it really soaks up the oil and drys very quickly. It's nice when you put on a lot of paint with the palette knife. It is a fun way to paint.

Jim, the colors you used make it look exactly the way a city looks lit up at night. I, too, am reminded of Van Gogh. Jodi

Damn Jimbo! I was flitting though and figured I'd go back over some of the time I was away from the forum. Good God man...! This is beautiful and yes it SMAKS of van Gogh. A modern van Gogh that he may have painted today. He called himself a colorist and these were his favorite colors. OK I won't indulge my OCD problem about van Gogh.

Beautifully done!

This is beautiful Jim. I had to reread what you wrote, because I couldn't figure out at first why you were posting an image of what looked like a Van Gogh painting. I think we all thought that immediately. Beautiful work.

Wishing you peace and prosperity,

Thank you very much Naomi!
That is quite a compliment. The palette knife paintings have been a lot of fun.
I'll have to get back to doing some more. Haven't seen you around for awhile.
Glad to see you back.
