Hi Everyone,

As jdpainter pointed out, painting a little something every day or as often as possible can be very beneficial to improving your abilities as an artist.  I’m lucky if I complete a 5 x 7 once a week.  It takes me from an hour and a half to three hours to do one that size (I’m not very fast here).  These (supposedly quick), little studies can also be beneficial to your pocketbook.  The 5 x 7 oil on board ‘Prickly Pear in bloom’ was done several weeks ago.  It took about two and a half hours and sold at a show yesterday.  I have been in some co-op shows that were a complete bust for most of the artists and it’s nice to have a few pieces that will pay your share of the expenses, if nothing else.

Hi Leon
I too believe that doing these small paintings can be really helpful. It helps keep in touch and we can try out multiple combinations of techniques and colors before we get down to the larger paintings.
