| This is an oil measuring 39 x 50, from a pastel drawing I did sometime ago, I am presently stuck. I don't were to go from here. I know I have broken a lot of rules of composition, and possibly color as well; but is working on any of the senses? Need you guys to help through this idea. |

Hi Shana, I like your colors. They are very pretty. There is an old saying that all roads lead to Rome and that all roads lead out of Rome. In your painting the flower and stems lead my eye to the center of the painting and then my eye is led right out of the painting the same way. I would probably darken the background in the lower left corner of the painting and darken the petals in the upper right hand corner. I might then get several sheets of clear plastic and paint different ones with flowers and leaves and petals and place then on the canvas to see what effect different compositions would create. I hope that these ideas are of help to you. Leon

I agree with Leon, An enhancement to the tonal quality and a brightening of the stem and the lower big flower to bring out the light source might help also. Jim

Shana,
I am not sure what you are trying to communicate.
You're colors are good but you need to simplify you're composition.

| I agree - simplify, paint out the leaf and it's stem, put more flowers gowing down the stem, have a strong light source, increase your lights and darks on flowers and stem, and tone down background, make it less busy. You have a nice diagonal line going from top right to bottom left. The other stem creates a triangle. doing this will make a simplistic and dramatic painting. Your painting... just my opinion. |

| Thank you all for your ideas. I am going to put this out of sight for awhile until I have a clear vision of where it should go. I know that I am lost on it right now, but with you suggests maybe I will get it back on track. My first idea was this was going to be somewhat abstract. I think the only thing abstract is that I have idea where I was going on this. Thank you again, I am very grateful for all the input. |

Hi Shana I think lightening the right bottm corner and having a sharper definition of the direction of light on the stems could help in highlighting the flowers. Currently the dark corner is pulling the focus downwards from the flowers on the top. (just my views ) Sandeep |
