| good morning!....finally i can bring in the finished painting...unless in the next few days i decide to tweak the red apples' highlight, this is signed and finished as of yesterday morning.....i went back into the apples in the bowl to fine tune some of the work and add a bit of value and highlights in a few spots....the red apple was tweaked out with a mixture of sap green and cobalt violet, in the darker areas, touches of pure alizarine in others, a mix of alizarine and yellow ochre in the lil spots that are near the stem and a bit on the side...i will submit this one to two shows coming up at the end of july and another in sept, these are juried shows so hopefully it will be accepted....now to decide on the frame...eeeeek this is going to be tough.... |

| That's okay, this way we can see what an impact the "pop" of red makes. I really love this painting.... |

OWS.....
I thought of you the other day. We took the kids to the zoo and saw some giraffes......reminded me of that giraffe safari painting you did a few months back.

Beautiful work. So, you are going to submit this with just the one red apple in full color? Interesting idea. Judith |

| yep....just the one red apple...i wanted something a bit different for the plymouth show..since they seem to eh...er....select paintings that are a bit different...i will be submitting the lioness as well as a few more pieces to this show too.....but last year the judges had juried in quite a few abstract and contemporary pieces.....the best in show? was a very ~out there~ type of painting...had a lil of everything in it....though thats not my style, i wanted something to offer that was a bit quirky, along with my more realistic submissions...there is no trying to figure out judges, but i am just trying to cover a few more bases than i normally would..... |

update!!!....well.....the new frame wasnt ready for the Pembroke show, sadly, so this painting didnt get a chance to show.....but the new frame was in time for the smaller Carver show....and? it took first place there....the ~Plymouth Estuary~ painting took second....so i took the top two spots...hehee...
and?......when the submissions date came around for the Plymouth show, it was entered....and???? i just got word this past week, that ?????? this painting took first place in oil/acrylic category!....so in truth it beat out two groups, cause they put the two mediums together....a shame but they do...doh.....but i am not complaining!!!....so this painting this year took two first! yippie!...show doesnt open till the fifteenth of this month to the public.....but for those who dont mind paying admission fees, the fourteenth is the award ceremony and? i will get a chance to go cause ribbon winners get free entrance....yea! |
