I'm still working on this painting of Mitre Peak.  My wife, who is a very accomplished artist, and I have some lively discussions at times about our art and find each others comments helpful.  I'm always interested in more input.

HI LMB.....

I love the top of the painting, it looks like true rock, like you could reach out and touch it. The middle looks a bit flat like it needs more definition. I'm wondering if it is just the darker places (exposed rocks/paths) that I want to see more defined? I'd love to hear the other comments.

You said this isn't finished yet. I has a good base and composition. The solitary clouds look a little hard for being so small. Not sure what your end vision of this is, will the foreground be flowers" stone" sandy? Looking forward to the finalized painting.

Hi Everyone,

I have not signed the painting yet, otherwise I have finished it.  Thanks for the suggestions made.  I have three different shows coming up at the end of this month so I'm pretty busy trying to get enough new work done for each one.  Comments are still A-OK.  I hope to never stop learning.

This looks great Leon.  I like the way you softened the sky.  Well done.

I actually liked the way the blues contrasted in your first, photo....
second one is nice, but to me seems a little monotone,
If it was mine I would have some more blue in the rocks or is it just the photo.

That is also possible.

i was wondering? about how you created the sky...did you use horizontal brush strokes?
many times if you use swirling or cross strokes to lay the sky in, then softly brush the surface a bit...one can create more depth....the horizontal strokes nearly act as a wall, that causes the eye to stop and stagger as one views it....

but....there are sky/cloud effects that do require horizontal strokes, this is why i was asking...~cringe~
