hi!
this has a nice feel to it......i love the egret/heron...but i think you could have shown him up a bit more...by having the water be a slightly different color...because the color is bright it tends to make that lil beauty disapear...
another really important factor about painting water....is making sure the far line is straight...~stairstepping~ the line to create lil nooks and coves...to make irregularities in the shoreline works too......if the water had more grey in it? dulling it a bit i think it could have show him up....
also with oils? one has this marvelous ability to blend out and soften edges.....the reflection would be slightly distorted...a bit shimmery....even in calm water ....
i do like your canopy effect though...it makes it feel rather deep in the swamp.....and the attitude of the bird is perfect !

I agree with "one who sees". I almost missed the bird at first glance. I would darken the water behind him so as to have him show up a bit more. I think I would add a bit more detail to the cypress(?) trees in the foreground as well. To me the rounded edge of the water makes it look like it is in a curved swimming pool instead of out in nature, like I assume it really is. I like the idea of the trees above the water. Thanks for sharing this.............Gene
