Hi guys this is my first post in the oil section... One Who Sees has bullied me into having a go at painting a portrait in oil.. This is my brother Allan... oil on canvas.. I'm not really sure what I'm doing. but OWS is helping me out with mediums etc.. I'm using straight liquin as a medium and it seems to be working ok. I like the quick drying time.. Basically all I've done so far is laid in some background colour and then using very thin paint I've painted an underpainting in the same colours that I will end up with... I've started to add detail to the eyes by adding layers..

Looks good so far. You've got a great base to build
detail onto.

This looks like it will be stunning when finished. I LOVE liquin, the light goes right through it and makes the painting glow in person. But it looks like you have found that out already. Please keep adding here so we can see the progress to the finished painting.

I too think you're doing a wonderful job and would also like to see the progress.

Hi guys

Thank you very much for all your kind words of encouragement

Here's a little update... I've been building layers of skin tone by glazing... using liquin  as the  medium... I've also added some background colour to keep the painting balanced... My brothers spirit is starting to show through on the canvas ,its quite eerie...in dim light the painting actually glows....

Hi Bruce,
You have found the magic of liquin, it glows.... it is eerie isn't it when it is someone you know? This is beautiful and coming along nicely. Can't wait to see it finished. Thanks for the kind words on my portrait, I appreciated them. Keep painting so we can see this finished - I get impatient when a painting is this close to being done.

Bruce, I'm staring in awe. You've captured Allan's facial features as well as his soul. You must be a real natural for this type of work. Great job.
