Love to get input on these- finally finished after starting last year some time..... there is one more that I need to re- shoot.

wondering about the angle of light in the one with the thatch & dog.... and whether they're both just too boring.

I like them both. In the first one, I'm not quite sure what it is, but the stairs seem a little off.
I think it's the second step from the top. Maybe to much angle? The bottom one I think the thatch
needs to pick up some of the color from the building and have a more of a golden hue to it to help
with the sunset effect. Can't really tell if the dog is up and backing away from something or stretched out
for a nap. The spacing perspective may be a little off here.
Just some thoughts on some very nice work.

thanks, i'll take another look. tried to anchor the dog with shadows, but he's still floating a bit- i'll chek the reference photos again for the stairs (which i painted MONTHS ago & promptly quit dealing with) and the dog.

appreciate the input- this forum is really helpful

I love the color and detail of the first painting, but the subject matter seems a little boring. Maybe if there was someone on the steps or out in front of the gate, it would bring it to life. I really like the second painting. I think the dog needs a little more highlight on the face. On first glance, I thought he was headless. I like the texture work and shadows on the overhang.

thanks- better defing the dog's head might fix the laying down/ backing up issue as well....

i was thinking about putting dogs in all of them (there were lots of dogs in town- we quite enjoyed it, all friendly & gave us our daily dog fixes).

i like the shadwo within the stairwell...but i think youve missed some opportunities to use other cast shadows too....
the lights? they should have some shadow....the plants in front too?....

as for the dog....i think your showing too much length of leg verticly below his body....it makes him feel as though he is crouch standing a bit.....shorten up the length, change the angle a bit and that should help a lil
