I completed this painting last night.  I have been working on it for some time, off and on.  Life has been quite hectic lately, so was not able to paint as often as I wanted.  I definitely need to invest in a better camera and lighting equipment, since I will be loading images to my site, once I have the virtual gallery going, and will be selling prints (maybe paintings) from the images there.  So obviously need a better quality camera.

This is on a textured gesso/modeling paste ground, which does not show in the painting as well, and the yellow part is not showing the variations as much, nor the turquoise in the blue...like I said I need to get a better camera.  All of that being said, comments welcomed.

Tranquility, 36 x 30, Oil, on textured gesso ground.

I've always admired people that can paint out of there imagination. This is very nice.
It almost looks like a person growing from a plant or being cocooned. I like your shapes
and shadowing.

Thanks Jim. I am working on experimenting and letting go of some of my boundaries, trying to work with as much of my imagination as possible. The tricky part will be finding the market for my work, because I can fully see my style and subject matter changing constantly. I can get bored easily. I already have someone inquiring about prints, after just seeing this and my other painting Sorrow. So I know there is someone out there who will be interested!!

Thanks for the kudos Retha.

Thanks J, Jim and Retha. I appreciate the feedback and the kudos. It measn a lot to me that you took the time look at it and comment, especially since I admire the quality of creations so much.

Jim I like your handle on paint, especially with water. You have a very fluid way of painting that feels organic. Retha, I really think you paint with passion and emotion. It comes across very strongly for me. And J, well, all I can say is I love your handle on color and wildlife. This is such warmth to your paintings.

Naomi,
I missed this one for some reason. Very fluid lines, vibrant color, you caught the expression of tranquility nicely, has a story to tell. I really like it.

Thanks Heather. I am glad you used the term that I "caught the expression" nicely. I was trying to come up with what I would call this series that I am starting to work on and that was one of the words. I think I am going to go with that and call it the Expressions Series.

It's also funny that you speak about the vibrant colors. I keep telling myself, "Okay, on this painting I am going to use subdued, gentle colors, and when I am done and take a step back, the paintings are always strong vibrant colors. LOL I think I just have to accept the fact that my passion always goes towards the strong and vibrant.

Thank you Naomi for your kind words. I owe a lot to this forum and
a lot of the artists here who taught me a lot about other mediums,
technique and patience. Love the name of your new series "The Expressions Series".
Looking foward to seeing your imagination at work here.

This reminds me of the Native American paintings by R.C. Gorman. I think I have his name right. You see lots of his paintings in the galleries in Arizona and New Mexico. The bright colors are very nice. No need to try to change that, as far as I am concerned...........Gene

I'm curious about what appears to be an embossed copy right and signature at the bottom.  Is that in paper canvas before or after the art work?

Hi Lung Tom: That is not in the art work and it will not be in the print. That is to help with copyright protection when posting on the Internet. It makes it harder for someone to right click on the image and post it to their own site as their own work. Not that anyone would do that here...but it is just good practice. They would have to spend some time and work to remove it and not to disrupt the image. Since I have to post the image whole on the forum, I put the copyright on there using PhotoShop.

For my own site, I go to a lot more work. I divide the image into 4-6 sections, put the image into a table with each cell having a background image of part of the painting. I will still probably add a copyright mark; however, not as large as appears on this image, probably in the lower right quandrant. Then I make a clear/blank .gif image the size of each cell and insert these blank images in each cell of the table.

This way, if a person right clicks to save the picture to their hard drive, all they are saving is the clear/blank .gif. The whole point is to make it harder for someone to just right click and save the image of my painting to their hard drive, or to do what is called hotlinking my image to their site.

I like to dream big and believe that somewhere down the road my prints and paintings will be in hot demand. It is better for me to take the steps to protect my images now, than have to redo everything in the future. LOL

I won't worry about dividing up images that are thumbnail size, since they will be too small to really use; however, I will still put the copyright watermark on those thumbnail images.

Wishing you peace and prosperity,
Naomi

This is so alive, but subdue. It looks like a product of nature and a sculpture.
It has mystery, and yet is very smoothing. The play of contradications is great. I love the colors. That is always a big deal for me( the colors).
Tell me more about this copyright thing. Sounds like something all artist should being aware of and how to use. scochran

Shana: Thanks for your feedback on the painting. The only thing that is not as true with the colors, because of my camera and where I took this picture, is the blue is not this type of blue, in actuality it is more of a dark aqua teal blue. However, it still has the qualities you referred to.

The best thing to do in reference to learning more about copyright protecting your work on the Internet is to do a search on keywords such as copyright, artwork, Internet, images, etc.

I just know that with my bread and butter business as a VA (http://www.topshelfva.com), I have had others in the industry copy text directly from my website and paste it into their website. Then I would write to these individuals to cease and desist or legal action would be taken, and they would always say something like, "Oh, what you wrote was so good, I couldn't think of anything better to say. So I thought I would just use your words." So they put my words on their site, presenting it as their own. I've had to write web hosting companies reporting some of their customers, encouraging the hosting company to avoid legal action. Once they did a little research and discovered I really was the author and originator of this site, they took down the other person's site. Other people changed their websites the minute I threatened legal action.

So I have transferred my experience with people trying to take my words as their own from one business and I am translating the possibility of that happening in my new venture.
