I am always looking to find out how artists work on a painting. However, very few places show the painting step by step. I am trying my first hand at creating a blog that shows a painting as it progresses. Please visit the site and tell me what you think. I am open to ways to make it more informative in the future.

For those who do not have the time right now to read the step by step blog, I will post the photos here for your comments. Since it is Winter in Michigan, all of the photos have been taken in doors. So, the colors may not translate well. However, when complete, I will take a proper photo to show the true colors.

| I really like the way you created this. I just think you should just take pictures of the paintings and not your surrounding studio. It looks really distracting to me to have that added background. I also wish you had mentioned the brushes and palette you used because I'm personally really interested. |

I followed Lola's advice and concentrated the photos on just the painting this time. As I said before, please forgive any color being off. I am photographing these images indoors. It is 10 degrees outside today

Sorry about any problems viewing the photos. Still, every photo there, I post here. The blog just allows you to read how I painted it each time. Please feel free to make any suggestions or comments about the painting. This painting is nearing the end. I will be doing a portrait next time.

I think this is a great comsept! I am trying to teach myself how to oil paint ( I am a watercolorist) I will continue to check back and watch you progress. Nice subject.

| This is a great job, and a valuable tool for beginners or old dogs learning new tricks.HAHA...It's amazing you say your a water color artist, because it's obvious you have many great talents. It is funny though, the last two photos have strong water color features and blending. Great job. Curious, would anyone like to see more of these step by step paintings? |

Thanks for the comments. I always enjoy watching how a painting progresses. When I view the master in museums, I try to get as close as possible and see if I can tell how they constructed the painting.

wips have been around for awhile...sorry...your there not new...lol..BUT each painting IS new....so its a lot of fun to watch another progress when by a different artist...even each piece is different by the same artist....
i really like this painting because its a subject i have often entertained!..the blues contrasting with those mortar/stuco type structures are just fabulous....and the ocean blue against the varying blues they use as paint is just visually a treat!.......
i love your painting but your making me nervous watching you work that outside edge of the dome!...
that outside edge should be a soft edge...~lost edge~..not sharp...
and there is a slight irregularity to this part of the bottom edge of the dome...this right corner of the angle? the domes edge right there still feels a tiny bit odd...a bit oblong/oval instead of rounder...
those cast shadows of those lil details on the dome? are done great!! |
