This is a colored pencil and watercolor painting of a cat my daughter had. I don't know why she named her Midnight because there's a lot of white on her coat. Comments are welcome.

Beautiful. The background looks like it could be watercolor. When this first was opening I thought this was the photograph to show with your work. I love this one, composition, balance, values and colors are right on! The bark on the wood, fur, water, and plants really makes this a study in textures.

This is nice..........What I really like is the texture in the wood! I also like the flowers in the background. I am having a hard time making out the cat's right ear. I think I am not getting a great image on my computer. Would love to see this in real life................Thanks for sharing this........Gene

Heather and Gene, Thanks for your comments. This was originally intended to be a watercolor painting but I had to use colored pencil to get some of the textures I wanted, mainly for the wood. Gene... I can see the right ear fairly well on my screen. I am posting a cropped photo of that area that may make the detail of the ear clearer.

Ron, thanks for posting that close-up. I still think you could maybe make the area around the back of the cat's right ear lighter in order to make the ear stand out better. But, wait a minute, this is watercolor, right? I don't know if it is possible to lift enough of the paint back there or not. And I guess it depends on what color you are using..........Payne's grey? Does that lift easily? I'm such an amateur at watercolor, that I'm not sure. I'll bet in real life it shows up just fine, anyway. Wouldn't it be fun if we could all meet in person with all of our postings and then hold critiques live? I belong to a great art group here where we have a Critique night once a month. It takes a lot of nerve to take paintings in, because there are many, many very outstanding artists in the group, but I get nervy (Hey, at my age...........what do I have to lose?) and get a lot of help..........So, I know seeing the piece in real life is the only way to really see it. ......Gene

Ron,
good painting
I just find that the cat and the water flows into each other too much,
but maybe thats what you wanted.
I would darken the water or darken the white side of the cat.
