Telling a story by visual communication in a creative way. I think that's what great illusration
is all about.

The difference between an illustration and fine art is that illustration tells a story
relating to written text whereas fine art tells a story through the visual only.
Edward Hopper is considered one of the foremost American realist artist of
the 20th century. He started as an illustrator.

Hi Dana:

The keys to a great illustration involve in many ways like techniques, skills, styles, drawing, painting...One thing I could tell you is check into "Lord of the Brush, John Howe.  Then you will know the keys to a great illustration.

The only difference between a fine artist and an illustrator is that the latter can draw,
eats three square meals a day, and can afford to pay for them.

Well said Jim! I had to do an essay on Flagg last semester for Visual Communications class and used that quote as part of the essay.

It amazes me at how many fines artists started life as illustrators. I did not realize that such was the case until I added Graphic Illustration to my major last semester and began taking illustration related classes. Now I am hooked!
