Hi JM,

This is beautifully done!  Very dramatic.  Reminds me of the waters in the South Pacific.

It is odd, last night while watching TV I was playing with compositions for my new mermaid painting and had the same arch to the body that you have here with arms outstretched (similar to yours but not exactly).  Yesterday Jim and I had put up works in the same forums with similar subject matter at about the same time.  Now I am doing sketches that resemble your work.  Hmmmm... interesting.....

After looking at the image of "The Mermaid", I decided it was a little too fuzzy and needed to be photographed again.
I should do the same with "The Sea Serpent", but that one was done on illustration board and is under glass...I really don't want to open it again.
"The Mermaid" was painted on masonite and isn't under glass, so it was easy to photograph it again.
I think you'll agree "The Mermaid" looks better in this picture then the first one I provided.

Heather, I hope this inspires you more!

Yes it does inspire me more. And it does look better when in focus. This is really gorgeous.

Thank you for posting the closeup, now I will have to post mine when it is done. My mermaid is leaning back bursting out of the sea (at least at this point I think she is) long hair flowing and arms outstretched above her head, her face isn't showing, one just sees the bottom of her chin. I am going for sensual fluid lines in the body. This will be a theme painting for ebay, this week it is Goddess, and I am doing a mermaid Goddess of the Sea. Unfortunately, it can only be the 2.5"x3.5" size, but if I really like it I will redo a little differently, with same body, in a larger size. I am doing it in acrylics.
